We suggest that you have eaten something within 3 hours prior to your appointment, particularly if you experience low blood sugar or low blood pressure. We also ask that you arrive a few minutes early for your initial appointment, to allow time to complete our health information form.
What should I expect for my first massage visit?
We will go through the information provided on your health information form and discuss any issues you may have and discuss your treatment options. After the initial discussion, you will be afforded some privacy to disrobe and lay on the table (under a bath sheet).
The choice is yours to disrobe to your level of comfort. However, for at least the initial assessment, for men it is recommended you wear a boxer brief or similar, while for women, a sports bra or similar, with a bikini brief or bike short is recommended. You will be draped at all times to ensure that you feel safe and secure.
It depends on why you are having a massage. If it is your first massage you may wish a general relaxation style with some deep tissue work. Or you might have a problem with a specific muscle which you would like to deal with. You can discuss the options with the therapist during your initial assessment or by phone when you make your appointment.
People tend to think that massage has to be hard and painful to be effective. This is not always the case. Muscles that are tight and in spasm often contract more with hard pressure. Massage can be deep without being excruciating, provided the superficial muscles are warmed up using specific techniques to encourage muscles to relax. We are always guided by you to ensure you are completely comfortable and happy with the outcome.
